Gait analysis / Biomechanics: Assessing the structure and function of the foot and lower leg
The human body can take thousands of steps a day, especially in the urban environment where the feet can be a major part of a person’s transport. Combined with the desire to stay fit, this repetition can lead to overload and pain.
Our bodies are designed to function in an ideal manner. However, we are not perfect and, when the body’s structure and function do not work as designed, forces can build up and damage can occur.
The assessment of the body’s function and subsequent forces is known as biomechanics. Bio Podiatry podiatrists are trained to review your lower limb biomechanics via measurements and gait analysis. If this function and the subsequent forces are found to be less than perfect, strengthening and stretching exercises can be advised.
If there are structural problems, orthotics/orthoses can be prescribed. If orthotics are required, our podiatrists always ensure the orthotics will fit in your shoes, be comfortable and work.
